Support fonts with self-intersections and overlapping regions have
become increasingly common as modern font rasterizes support this.
Previously such fonts were often unusable as they caused severe errors
where large parts of glyphs were not properly filled.
Resolve using Constrained Delaunay Triangulation (CDT) with a non-zero
fill-rule which was added as part of this project to support filling
fonts with self-intersections, see: [0].
The settings are split into two properties:
Fill Solver:
- Sweep Line: Fast historic algorithm
(default for curves, calls `BLI_scanfill`).
- Delaunay: Constrained Delaunay Triangulation: Slower robust algorithm
(default for 3D text, calls `BLI_delaunay_2d`).
Fill Rule (for Delaunay solver):
- Even-Odd: Alternating inside/outside based on crossing count.
- Non-Zero: All regions with non-zero number of crossings count
are filled (needed to match font filling).
Details:
- Expose fill_solver and fill_rule properties in the curves UI.
- Expose fill_rule in the geometry nodes UI.
- New text objects default to "Delaunay" with a non-zero fill rule.
- Non-zero filling uses the curve winding to define holes.
- BKE_displist: Add fill_{solver/rule} parameters, implement CDT fill.
Path with intersections use vertex Z interpolation as needed.
- While CDT filling is slower (for 3D text objects),
CDT filling is multi-threaded.
Fixes #42071.
